Bio

I am a self taught painter, drummer and one man rock n’ roll band!

I currently reside in the foothills of the rocky mountains near Calgary, Alberta, Canada. I began painting in November 2015 as a way to enrich my life through the permanent realization of different passing thoughts, visions or interpretations of the world around me. Previous to this, I had no interest in painting or drawing whatever because as many do, I firmly believed I could not do it and art was best left to somebody more “gifted” than myself. Having alas put in the honest time and effort I have stumbled upon the ability to put an image embedded in my mind onto a canvas. Painting continually reminds me that the true, sustainable joys in life do not lie in consumption, materialism or technology…despite all the marketing tripe we are bombarded with in daily life.

As a painter, I am influenced primarily by Expressionists, Post-Impressionists, Surrealists and Dada. I find it unnecessary to commit to painting in any one style. There are simply too many subjects and emotions that interest me: the dream, the non-existent, nature, anxiety, fears, the human face and figure. I also enjoy painting on site in the open air, not to simply copy the scene in front of me but to hopefully breathe more life into it than already exists, while capturing the overall atmosphere of the scene as quickly as possible, in bold, wild colors with little regard for a detailed resemblance. It is my goal to represent as much of the Canadian country side as possible in years to come with my outdoor painting.

Pseudo-intellectual Quotes:

  • “A person’s intelligence is futile should it not co-exist with compassion for others and the natural world”
